چکیده

We study foam drainage using the large-Q Potts model extended to include gravity on a three dimensional lattice. Without adding liquid, homogeneously distributed liquid drains to the bottom of the foam until equilibrium between capillary eeects and gravity is reached, while in an ordered dry foam, if a xed amount of liquid is added from the top, a sharp at interface between the wet and dry foam develops. The wetting front proole forms a downward moving pulse, with a constant velocity. The pulse decays over time while its leading edge for a brief time behaves like a solitary wave. With continuous liquid addition from the top, the pulse does not decay and we observe a soliton front moving with a constant velocity. Continuously adding liquid to an initially wet foam keeps the liquid proole constant. Our simulations agree with both experimental data and simpliied mean eld analytical results for ordered foams but predict an unstable interface for disordered foams.

Dynamics and Topological Aspects of a Reconstructed Two-Dimensional Foam Time Series Using Potts Model on a Pinned Lattice

We discuss a method to reconstruct an approximate two-dimensional foam structure from an incomplete image using the extended Potts model on a pinned lattice. The initial information consists of the positions of the vertices only. We locate the centers of the bubbles using the Euclidean distance-map construction and assign at each vertex position a continuous pinning field with a potential falli...

Viscous instabilities in flowing foams: a Cellular Potts Model approach.

The Cellular Potts Model (CPM) successfully simulates drainage and shear in foams. Here we use the CPM to investigate instabilities due to the flow of a single large bubble in a dry, monodisperse two-dimensional flowing foam. As in experiments in a Hele-Shaw cell, above a threshold velocity the large bubble moves faster than the mean flow. Our simulations reproduce analytical and experimental p...

Simulations of viscous shape relaxation in shuffled foam clusters

We simulate the shape relaxation of foam clusters and compare them with the time exponential expected for Newtonian fluid. Using two-dimensional Potts Model simulations, we artificially create holes in a foam cluster and shuffle it by applying shear strain cycles. We reproduce the experimentally observed time exponential relaxation of cavity shapes in the foam as a function of the number of str...

Foam Application in Fractured Carbonate Reservoirs: A Simulation Study

Fractured carbonate reservoirs account for 25% of world’s total oil resources and for 90% of Iranian oil reserves. Since calcite and dolomite minerals are oil wet, gas oil gravity drainage (GOGD) is known as the most influencing production mechanism. The most important issue within gas injection into fractured media is the channeling problem which makes the efficiency of gas injection process e...
